John Jefferies is a native of Cork city who has lived in Cobh since 2005. He was educated at Ashton School and St. John’s Central College, Cork
John has had a keen interest in history throughout his life and was a founding member of the Spirit of Mother Jones Festival and the Cobh 1916 Commemoration Committee.
John’s grand-uncle Dan “Sandow” O’Donovan was a senior officer of the Cork No.1 Brigade of the IRA throughout the War of Independence and Civil War. O’Donovan was the first of the five named suspects for the Cobh Pier Head attack in 1924, having had a £10,000 reward for his arrest.
